Girls With Books: A World at School video to mark International Women’s Day

Girls' education

It began in 1911 and is as relevant today as it was then.

International Women's Day on March 8 is an annual event which both celebrates achievements and advocates change.

The 2014 theme is Inspiring Change  – challenging the status quo for women's equality and inspiring positive change.

To mark International Women's Day this year, A World at School has released a new video titled A New Global Power: Girls with Books.

It honours the right of every girl to go school and learn and features Malala Yousafzai and her friend Shazia Ramza, who were both shot by the Taliban in Pakistan.

Thousands of events are held across the world to mark International Women's Day, ranging from political rallies to craft markets.

One of the highlights is the Women of the World festival at London's Southbank Centre from March 5 to 9. Malala will be speaking there on March 8.

The Twitter hashtag #IWD2014 is being used to spread the word about this year's events.

Please help mark #IWD2014 by:
