In April 2014 300 girls were kidnapped from their school in Chibok, Nigeria. Boko Haram claimed responsibility. A few of these girls were able to escape and tell their story. This incident gave rise to an upsurge of awareness of the need for safe schools. Theirworld now plays a large part in building awareness of the need for safe schools, and runs projects worldwide to create a safe place to learn.
