Education is my pride, my future and my life

I am a 20-year-old young lady who is very passionate about advocating for the rights of women, children and youths at large. I am an activist that is working with various organisations such as Activista The Gambia, Network against Gender Based Violence and Peace in The Gambia, that are working towards eradicating gender-based violence, hunger in The Gambia and the world at large and to empower young people to build social responsibility.

As an A World at School Global Youth Ambassador, I want to dedicate my birthday to children of the world as they are the future leaders and people who will bring about the change I want to contribute in making the world a better place for all, especially children. I decided to name my birthday as World Education Day. The theme for my 21st birthday on February 9 is: Education – my pride, my future and my life.

The objective is to sensitise 50 students on the importance of education, their rights and social responsibilities by hosting an education forum. I am inviting speakers from the American Embassy, UNICEF, NYC and UNDP to discuss the challenges affecting children. I will also present school materials to students in primary school, i.e. books, school supplies, backpacks, etc.

In doing this, I hope to create an awareness of issues affecting children in receiving an education and create passion among my community to join the global campaign for education.
