Global Youth Ambassador from UAE supports Gaza school kits project

Sixteen-year-old Simran Vedvyas is launching her first initiative of the year as Global Youth Ambassador for A World at School in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She used social media to inspire young volunteers to fill some of the 50,000 educational kits for conflict-affected schoolchildren in Gaza – providing them with the basic educational supplies required for school.

Simran and the youth-based organisation SynergY, of which she is the founder and chairperson, are supporting Dubai Cares’ efforts. In line with guidelines from UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinaian Refugees), these kits include a backpack, notebooks, sketchbooks, calculator, pencil case, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, crayons, rulers, etc. The event took place at Al Boom Tourist Village Dubai UAE from January 8 to 11.

Simran has been recently conferred with a prestigious Diana International Award, UK, as Diana Active Campaigner 2014. Simran is also one of eight Youth Ambassadors selected to spearhead the World Peace Caravan (WPC), a 12-day camel caravan for peace, health, education and awareness from Petra, Jordan, to Jerusalem in December 2015.

Beginning on January 7, the ambassadors began a 12-month WPC Youth Educational Program to lead up to the caravan. The web-based, multimedia program is designed to empower the WPC Youth Ambassadors and its Youth Community to invent and implement solutions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which they can then apply to their own communities and to the world at large.
