About the role
One of these critical new hires is an engaging and creative Media Officer with several years’ experience to join our growing communications team. Reporting to the Head of Communications, the role will be based in our London office, with occasional domestic and international travel as required.
The post will cover a broad range of press, media and communications skills, with particular attention to:
engaging proactively with the media, pitching stories to international, national, trade and consumer press
tracking news and identifying media opportunities for Theirworld
reacting to incoming press enquiries
ensuring Theirworld projects and reports receive coverage
liaising with our policy, research and project staff to identify and deliver communications opportunities from their activities and writing
ensuring Theirworld is a credible source and cited in third party articles
proofing and copy-editing reports and research papers and overseeing the printing process.
raising the profile of our leadership through op-eds, speaking, panel and conference opportunities
These responsibilities and functions may be adjusted slightly for the right candidate and over time as needs change.
Experience, skills and character
- Demonstrable interest in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and economic, foreign, security and other policies affecting marginalised and vulnerable populations around the world
Excellent written English and verbal communication skills. Good negotiation skills
Strong news sense and ability to spot a story
Ideally experience of working with press within consumer titles
Gravitas to confidently engage with a variety of media and pitch in stories
Determined, enthusiastic and proactive ‘can do’ attitude
Excellent time management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to get on with people at all levels and from all backgrounds
Resilient, a self-starter and a team player
Starting at £26,000 + based on qualifications and experience.
