Global Youth Ambassadors

A Global Youth Ambassador and primary school teacher tells how a simple task can help children to think creatively.

As a primary school teacher, I believe it is important to encourage children to think creatively.

Children between six and 12 are able to develop concrete thoughts and to act accordingly, getting involved in positive activities.

I recently managed an activity for my students to develop their level of thinking. I arranged a competition among 57 students – how to make a sweet fruit chaat (an Indian fruit salad). I sourced apples, grapes, curd, spoons, bananas, guava and some sugar.

The class was divided into 11 groups and the children prepared different fruit chaats. The judges (my fellow teachers), after marking every group, announced the position holders.

The students were so happy in the class. The activity helped develop the students’ competitiveness and sense of camaraderie and teamwork.
