No child should start school already behind

This situation is a result of more than a decade of underinvestment in early childhood. And the problem is now so bad that it’s estimated UK teachers are losing 2.5 hours of teaching time, every day, trying to support children who aren’t school-ready.

Our children deserve an early childhood that nurtures their development from the beginning, giving them the solid foundation they need to thrive in school and beyond.

It’s time for the UK government to invest in our youngest. From affordable, quality childcare to healthcare and nutrition, prioritising the crucial early years will give every child the tools that are essential in school and life.
