Global Faiths Coalition for Education

On this page you will find more information about the Global Faiths Coalition for Education and its work.

The Global Faiths Coalition for Education (GFC Education) was formed in 2014 to bring together faiths-based groups across the globe to support the right to education for every child and the opportunity for individuals to reach their full potential. The GFC Education supports the work of Theirworld.

Faiths-based groups have been both powerful guardians of basic human rights and reliable providers of education for centuries. Under the GFC Education, their energies are being harnessed for the millions of children around the world who are missing out on education.

All members of the GFC Education are committed to the fourth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals – to provide “inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all”. This means the GFC Education supports every child’s right to an education that is free from discrimination, is safe and is of a good quality.

They also agree with a statement that begins: “Education is a fundamental right of every child, the key to expanded opportunity and a source of peace, prosperity, employment and social cohesion.”

In 2015, members of the GFC Education delivered a combined four million signatures for the #UpForSchool Petition, delivering a powerful message to world leaders at the UN who had endorsed the promise to secure every child’s right to education.

The GFC Education has also been involved in the #BringBackOur Girls campaign, Interfaith Week and World Day of Prayer events.
