GBC Education meeting explores common ground on supporting education
Last month member companies of the Global Business Coalition for Education (GBC Education) met with donor governments and international donor agencies in Washington D.C. to discuss new opportunities to leverage the assets of both the public and private sector to expand education .
Taking place at the spring meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, a small round table meeting brought GBC Education members together with representatives from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Denmark and Japan, as well as two donor agencies, the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the International Finance Corporation.
The participants discussed how to best share their knowledge and resources to increase financing for education and expand existing programmes. With the Millennium Development Goal deadline fast approaching, the need to secure funding for every child to a receive quality education could not be greater. In a recent interview with Devex, Sarah Brown, who chaired the meeting, said that “We know that resources exist to invest in education and it’s in the interest of all development professionals to see education targets reached”.
