Global Youth Ambassador Programme – FAQs
Here we answer some of our most frequently asked questions in order to give you a better idea about the programme. If you would like to know more, you can contact the Theirworld Youth Team at [email protected]
What is the Global Youth Ambassador (GYA) programme?
The GYA programme is the go-to hub for young changemakers passionate about ensuring quality education for every child. It is a two-year programme designed to help you develop as an education activist. You will join an active network of 2,000 young people around the world and be encouraged to take advantage of all of the opportunities that this community has to offer.
What do I get access to as a GYA?
Many of our GYAs say the best thing about the programme is being part of a network of passionate, like-minded individuals who can offer support and advice, as well as chances to work together on different projects. We will also provide you with access to resources, virtual events to connect with and learn from one another, and a bespoke training toolkit to help build your knowledge of global education and develop your advocacy skills.
We also organise special initiatives for GYAs to be part of, such as Project Amplify, that give members the opportunity to work more closely on specific projects and skills building. Members are encouraged to keep an eye out for newsletters where we make our announcements!
What is the GYA platform?
This is the hub of our network. The GYA Platform is an online space for GYAs to learn, connect and understand more about the education climate and the role they play as young changemakers. This is where GYAs can find out about the latest news, opportunities and events that they can participate in. There are discussion boards for different themes and regions that will help you build your network and collaborate across projects and countries. Also, there is a fantastic bespoke training toolkit designed by GYAs for GYAs that develop your skills in advocacy and campaigning.
What will my two years look like?
In the beginning, we will encourage you to introduce yourself and explore the features that the learning platform has to offer. As you do this, you will find opportunities to build your expertise and your network that will lead to chances to take action online and in your community. We hold events throughout the year and the more you contribute to these, the more chances you will have to shape the conversations and actively participate in interviews, discussions, webinars and more. During your second year as a GYA there may be opportunities to share your knowledge with newer GYAs and develop your leadership and mentorship skills. There is no single pathway that all GYAs follow, but the more you can put into these two years, the more you will get out of them.
Will I get any funding?
We are not currently able to provide you with funding for your own campaigns and projects, including any transportation, materials, smart devices or formal identification costs.
If GYAs are invited by us to represent Theirworld at an event, we will cover all reasonable expenses. On these occasions, GYAs will never be asked to make arrangements themselves.
If you have any questions, please contact [email protected]
What support will I get?
There are different ways that we can support you through your two-year journey. For any opportunities that we offer you such as public speaking, letter writing or interviews, you will be fully supported both before and after the event to ensure you are confident with the process and able to enjoy the experience. We also love hearing the latest updates on our GYAs’ projects and activities. By giving you a platform through our newsletter and social media we can support you in sharing your projects, uplifting your voice and finding you new opportunities for you to grow as a changemaker.
There are loads of resources that are made available to GYAs, including training, reports and webinars. It’s up to you how much you take advantage of everything there is on offer.
Why do I need to apply?
We want to get to know who our ambassadors are before they join the programme. One of the greatest benefits of the GYA network is the passion and commitment of each member. So, it is important to us that we know that every new member is ready to engage with the programme and grow as an education advocate.
How should I complete my application form?
You can complete the application form by clicking this link here.
We encourage you to answer the questions as fully as possible, especially in the ‘Your application’ section, as this is what we will use to understand your passion for education and your suitability for the programme.
Note: if applications are closed, this link will take you to a place to register your details, and we’ll contact you when they’re open again!
When will I hear about my application?
We aim to inform you of the outcome of your application within 30 days of submitting it. If successful, you will be invited to sign our letter of agreement and you will receive your welcome email within 24 hours of doing so. If you sign at the weekend you will receive your email on Monday morning.
We inform all candidates who are unsuccessful by email. Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications that we receive, we’re unable to provide individual feedback.
How many hours are GYAs expected to commit a month?
As much or as little as you’d like! The more you put into the GYA programme – the more you’ll get out. We encourage you to get involved with all we have to offer so that you get the most out of your two years.
You can reach the GYA Team at [email protected] for any GYA related queries such as details on the application process or the GYA programme, as well as information on the latest GYA events and opportunities.
