About
Charmaghz’s main aim is to secure a peaceful future for the next generation of Afghans and we believe the first step towards that future is ensuring all children can read, write, and do basic math. Their goal is to provide a holistic, trauma-centered literacy and numeracy program to every child in Afghanistan that creates opportunities for learners to experience a sense of agency in their daily lives.
Charmaghz specializes in educational programming for children through trauma-informed and play-based programs to improve children’s literacy and numeracy skills. This is done through our Mobile Libraries where children are supported to build basic literacy and numeracy skills. Our trained Librarians engage children in
reading activities, either reading to them or assisting them in reading, and implement activities to grow these skills. This also includes engaging them in art activities, games that encourage critical thinking skills, and fostering a love of reading through storytelling. All of our activities are designed to support children’s psychosocial well-being and socio-emotional skills.
Charmaghz has created 31 Mobile Libraries that make stops in disadvantaged areas of Kabul, Afghanistan. Their libraries have been visited almost a million times since 2011, with 54% of the visitors being girls.
