Crisis in the Middle East: a call to action for children and youth

About

In response to the conflict in the Middle East, Theirworld is preparing several reports and implementing several projects to respond to the education, learning and support needs of children and youth affected by the crises.

Theirworld’s work in the region builds on our expertise in early childhood development and education in emergencies.

Israel

Theirworld is supporting a civics study and personal encounter programme which brings together Arab and Jewish middle school students, who live near one another, yet have never met. The programme fosters mutual understanding and respect as teachers and students confront their viewpoints on complex issues such as individual and national identity, community life, and what it means to share citizenship with a group whose narratives differ starkly from one’s own.

Lebanon

Theirworld is supporting its partners to offer play-based learning for children aged 3-8 in shelters, using games, music, and interactive methods to teach the curriculum in a fun and engaging way. We are also working with partners to create geodesic learning domes in schools that have been repurposed as shelters for displaced populations using a cohesive pedagogical Self-Directed Learning programme and employing displaced and unemployed teachers.
