Theirworld, Your Walk FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is Theirworld, Your Walk?

Theirworld, Your Walk is an annual fundraising challenge that takes place during the month of June. This year, #YourWalk will raise funds to help children whose lives have been disrupted by conflict continue their education.

How do I sign up for Theirworld, Your Walk?

It’s easy to do, simply click the ‘Sign Up’ button on this page.

How do I take part in a team?

Combine your steps across the month to reach the ‘Magic’ 1,000,000 steps total or just do a one off ‘Sponsored Stroll’.

First, one team member signs up and creates a page. They will then get an email thanking them for signing up, with a link at the bottom of the email to invite other team members. Simply share this link with the rest of your team and they will automatically be added to your page once they’ve signed up.

Your team page will show your team’s total funds raised.

How can a school take part?

Spend a day taking part in a Sponsored Stroll, gathering students and teachers for a one-off big walking event, and see how many steps you can achieve together in one day!

Students can team up in classes, year groups or even houses and combine their steps to reach that all important target. Teachers, support staff and parents may want to join too! For further information and to have help with sign up email us: fundraising@theirworld.org

How can a company take part?

Form a company team or teams and engage employees to contribute their steps in June to reach the ‘Magic Million’ – while seeing how much money you can raise for essential education.

You can also take part in a ‘Sponsored Stroll’ – a one-off walking event in June where you leave the step count behind and just focus on getting outdoors with colleagues. For further information and to have help with sign up email us: fundraising@theirworld.org

Can I take part if I use a wheelchair or mobility aid?

Of course, we’d love you to still get involved. Just pledge that in June you’ll get out and about, making sure that the distances are realistic for your level of fitness.

Can I run or jog the distance?

Yes, feel free to complete the distance in the way that works for you, making sure to keep in mind your ability and fitness levels.

Can I take part if I’m not in the UK?

Yes, absolutely. Just follow the ‘Sign Up’ button at the top of this page.

Can children take part?

Children are welcome to take part but only if they are participating alongside a registered person over the age of 18.

Is it free to register?

Yes, it is completely free to register for Theirworld, Your Walk. We suggest you start with a fundraising target of £150/$150, but any money raised will make a real difference in our work and contribute to our overall target of £40,000.

How much money do I need to raise?

We ask that those taking on the walk raise at least £150/$150 for Theirworld. But why stop there? We have lots of resources and support to help you with your fundraising so that you can reach, and even exceed your target.

How do I track my steps?

Modern smart phones tend to come with a pre-installed fitness app that will automatically track your steps when carried on your person. This is an easy way to count the steps you have taken. Alternatively, you can use a smart watch or a pedometer device too.

How can I see what other people are doing?

You can see how you or your team are doing compared to others by looking at the Theirworld, Your Walk campaign page. This is where every fundraising page is linked to so you can see what others are up to.

Can I fundraise offline?

Yes, you can. Simply download a sponsorship form from our resources section and get friends and family to sponsor you that way. At the end of your challenge, you can upload any offline donations to your fundraising page so your total is up to date. Don’t forget you can still claim gift aid on offline donations.

How will my money be used?

Every pound raised will go toward Theirworld’s work to end the global education crisis. The money raised through Theirworld, Your Walk will help children whose lives have been disrupted by conflict continue their education.

What about Gift Aid / Are my donations tax deductible?

For UK based fundraisers: If the person donating is a UK Taxpayer, Gift Aid allows us to receive an additional 25p for every £1 they donate, at no additional cost to them. Our fundraising platform gives people the easy option to opt in for Gift Aid. If people donate in person, make sure you record their name and address on your sponsorship form and have them tick the Gift Aid box for us to successfully claim Gift Aid from their donation. Please note that Gift Aid will not count towards your fundraising target but please do encourage your supporters to include Gift Aid in their donation as every penny counts.

For US based fundraisers: Yes. You will receive email confirmation of your donation to use for tax purposes.
