Volunteers' Week is held in the United Kingdom from June 1 to 7. So we asked some of our Global Youth Ambassadors to share the volunteer work they're doing - here's a fascinating idea from Uganda.
In an effort to get and keep children in school in the Namina marginalised community, I founded Dharmic Foundation Uganda as a youth-led organisation in 2012.
The aim was to provide basic education to underprivileged children by empowering their parents through commercial agriculture. We introduced commercial farming by providing farmers (parents) with seeds and a ready market.
This year, we provided the farmers with sweet potato leaves with higher yields and shorter maturation times.
The farmers are now harvesting and Dharmic is taking the market.
We partner with families to provide basic education scholarships, uniforms, scholastic materials and other donations.
Now all children in Namina community are able to attend school irrespective of their background.
