Stars of Disney Channel’s Liv and Maddie show are #UpForSchool

Hey, it’s the stars of Liv and Maddie – the hit Disney Channel comedy for teens. A World at School went to visit them in Los Angeles while they were recording Season Three.

If you’ve never seen the show, it’s about the Rooney twins and their family. Liv left home for four years to star in a TV show but has returned to the family. Maddie is a tomboy who loves to play sports.

The cast of the show are all standing #UpForSchool by signing our youth-led petition, which demands that all children around the world get an education. There are 59 million girls and boys who don’t go to school because of child marriage, child labour, discrimination, poverty and war.

Here’s Dove Cameron – who plays both high school students Liv and Maddie – adding her name to the #UpForSchool Petition.

Liv and Maddie’s younger brother Joey is a typical awkward teenager. He’s played by Joey Bragg – and he was happy to sign the petition, which will be handed to world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in September.

Liv and Maddie go to Ridgewood High – and their parents both work there too. Mum Karen is the school psychologist and dad Pete’s the basketball coach. They’re played by Kali Rocha and Benjamin King, who both signed #UpForSchool.

Then there’s little Parker, the youngest sibling. He’s played by 13-year-old Tenzing Norgay Trainor – his name might sound familiar even if you’ve never seen Liv and Maddie.

That’s because he is the grandson of the famous Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa from Nepal who was one of the first two people to climb the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, in 1953. Here he is on the right with Sir Edmund Hillary.

The family of Tenzing Norgay Trainor’s mother comes from Nepal, which was devastated by major earthquakes in April and May. More than 9000 people were killed and thousands of schools were destroyed or damaged – leaving almost one million children out of school.

Tenzing’s family have been fundraising to support education and health supplies for the American Himalayan Foundation. The organisation is creating temporary learning spaces, helping to rebuild schools and giving girls who are at risk of trafficking a safe place to learn.

Like all children, these students in Nepal just love to learn. And that’s the same at Ridgewood High School. Here’s a sign from the show to prove it.

And now you too can sign the #UpForSchool Petition and send a message to world leaders that every child in every country around the world deserves to get an education.
