A host of stars have shared their old school pictures to show their support for the #UpForSchool Petition and the need for all girls around the world to get an education. They include singers Shakira and Pixie Lott, supermodel Heidi Klum and TV celebs Miranda Hart and Kelly Osbourne.

International Women’s Day is on March 8 – but 31 million girls are deprived of even the most basic primary education and two-thirds of them will probably never go to school.

A World at School asked people to mark Throwback Thursday (TBT) today by posting a picture of themselves at school on social media – and to stand up for girls’ education by asking people to sign the #UpForSchool Petition. It’s a youth-led campaign that calls on world leaders to keep their promise to get all children into school and learning without danger or discrimination.

A World at School co-founder Sarah Brown led the way with school photos of herself and husband Gordon, the former British prime minister and now United Nations Special Envoy for Global Education. Sarah said: “This International Women’s Day we can all stand #UpForSchool for the next generation and ensure that they have the opportunity to grow, learn at school and lead.”
