Edinburgh research published in major medical journal

Congratulations to Dr Devasuda Anblagan, who has had part of her work at the Jennifer Brown Research Laboratory published in NeuroImage: Clinical, a major medical journal. Dr Anblagan is a postdoctoral fellow whose work models changes in the brain associated with preterm birth and the effects of neuroprotective treatments.

The brain consists of neural systems connected by white matter tracts (‘highways’ of nerve cells). The image below shows example brain tracts derived from MRI scans taken from a group of sleeping babies. This technique allows our scientists to measure the shape and quality of brain fibres in the newborn, and to work out which maternal and baby factors confer risk or resilience to tract growth.
