Celebrities, Girls' education

She helped to introduce stars including Lady Gaga and Britney Spears to the South Asian market.

As co-founder and CEO, Anjula Acharia-Bath has overseen the meteoric rise of entertainment and lifestyle website Desi Hits!

And now she is joining the fight to empower girls around the world by joining an advisory board for the Girl Up campaign.

Anjula said: “When girls and women are empowered, communities, countries and the world benefit. When you educate girls, you educate a family, a community and a nation.

“I’m committed to fighting for girls. I’ve never been the quiet type to stand by and watch, and the opportunity to join Girl Up offers us a stage and sound system to make our voices heard.”

Anjula – named on the Billboard Top 40 Women in Music – has joined 11 other influential enterpreneurs, celebrities and advocates on the advisory board at Girl Up, a campaign of the United Nations Foundation.

It gives American girls aged 13 to 18 the opportunity to channel their energy and compassion to raise awareness and funds for UN programmes that help some of the world’s hardest-to-reach adolescent girls.

Through Girl Up’s support, girls have the opportunity to become educated, healthy, safe, counted and positioned to be the next generation of leaders.

Anjula is currently working on a record with Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, who is a UNICEF India Ambassador.
