The Education Emergency: two panels in London and Cambridge link up

Today in London and Cambridge, two panels made up of a diverse group of women were on stage to discuss the ‘Education Emergency’ facing girls in the UK and worldwide.

Chaired by Theirworld’s Christianne Cavaliere, the London panel was made up by Pakistani activist Baela Raza Jamil,  Global Youth Ambassador for A World at School Francesca Danmole, Mulberry School for Girl’s Vanessa Ogden and  Maria Amrin, and Standard Chartered’s Payal Dalal.

In Cambridge, Dame Barbara Stocking chaired a panel made up of Professor of International Education Pauline Rose, Malala Yousafzai’s former teacher Mariam Khalique, Zoah Hedges-Stocks from the Showman Traveller community and Lucy Lake with special guest Fatima Yakubu from Camfed.

They addressed the following fundamental questions:

  • What difference does education make to lives worldwide?
  • What are the impacts on women and girls of education being unavailable, inaccessible or actively denied?
  • What policy options might be effective in securing the right to safe and quality education for all around the globe?
