#UpForSchool Launched in London

This week A World at School launched the #UpForSchool petition in the UK with a youth rally at London’s Southbank Centre.

Key speakers included Nobel Laureate Kailash Sayarthi, UN Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown, ODI Executive Director Kevin Watkins and Camfed founder and President Ann Cotton OBE. They joined hundreds of youth activists and school children to call for a quality education for the 58 million children who are still out of school.

The event also featured Shazia Ramzen and Kainat Riaz — who were also attacked in the shooting of Malala Yousafzai in 2012 — calling on world leaders to deliver on their promise of education for all. Shazia said: “Like many others around the world, I am committed to making sure that the right to an education is not ignored, that the voices of boys and girls like me are heard.”

Rounding off the event, Sarah Brown invited the leaders of the campaign — children themselves — to come up on the stage.
