Blooming Buds, with Jeeva Jyothi

About

Context

Very few children in Chennai’s urban slums go to school. Many are forced to work and beg on the streets to support their families.

Approach

Jeeva Jyothi are delivering early childhood education to children living in India’s slums in Chennai, southeast India, and the rural villages in the Sholavaram and Puzhal block. At three informal early childhood development centres, children aged two to six will have the opportunity to learn and play with toys and musical instruments. It is hoped that the project will instill in the children a love of learning, encouraging them to stay in school.

Impact

With Theirworld’s support, Jeeva Jyothi have set up three early childhood development centres for children living India’s slums and rural villages. Each centre will support 30 children aged two to six. Children at these centers will have nutritious meals to help reduce stunting and enhance learning.
