Children On the Edge

About

Children on the Edge is a child rights organisation that works hand-in-hand with communities to support some of the world’s most marginalised children, in some of the toughest situations.

They envision a world in which every child thrives, regardless of their geography, ethnicity or gender, and currently work with more than 17,000 children in Bangladesh, India, Uganda, Myanmar, and Lebanon. With over 30 years of experience in 18 countries, they have worked alongside communities to design programmes that address their specific needs and circumstances.

By doing so, they help transform the lives of marginalised children by co-creating protective, nurturing environments in which they can safely live, play, learn, and grow.

Their Cluster Learning Approach focuses on free, quality Early Years Education and teacher training in refugee settlements in Uganda Congolese refugees in Uganda, by offering refugees school management and teacher training, supplying loans and business training to teachers, and creating safe spaces in the Kyaka II settlement.

Uganda is host to an estimated 1.5 million refugees and asylum seekers; a quarter of them fleeing conflict, disease and human rights abuses in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Over 65% of arrivals in Kyaka II are children, many of whom have witnessed horrific violence and lost family members.

In the Kyaka II refugee camp in Uganda, refugee communities from the Democratic Republic of Congo, are being supported to deliver high-quality, cost-effective Early Childhood Development (ECD) provision, in safe spaces for 5,000 children aged 3-6 years. This education and support will ensure they have the best possible start in life and are enabled to thrive.
