ENJUBA SPELLING BEE
About
Enjuba aims to improve literacy and essential life skills in Ugandan children through early education, storybooks, and spelling competitions. Its objectives include providing access to high-quality early childhood education, using spelling competitions to foster reading, and publishing low-cost, locally relevant storybooks to boost home book ownership. The goal is to inspire a love for lifelong learning, improve literacy rates, and ultimately break the cycle of poverty through education by 2034.
In Uganda, they are developing and implementing a play-based structured curriculum that is both engaging and culturally relevant, training teachers and engaging parents. This will lay a strong foundation for children’s later success.
Through publishing low-cost, locally relevant storybooks, Enjuba aims to increase access to reading materials in homes. This encourages parents to read with their children, improving literacy skills and strengthening the bond between parents and children.
Their spelling competitions spark a love for reading in addition to providing a fun and engaging way for children to learn. They also instill a sense of achievement and pride and help children to develop essential life skills like confidence, communication and critical thinking.
