About

By breaking apart the typical hierarchies of theatre and classrooms, Seenaryo creates playful spaces for the meaningful participation of under-served communities in Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine.

Seenaryo works in both communities and schools. In communities, youth and women create and perform theatre productions. They use a participatory model – participants collaborate through theatre games and techniques to devise an original production based entirely on their ideas. These participatory theatre projects range from short, intensive 5-day projects (Showbuilds) to ‘Seenaryo Studio’ projects – flagship productions led by professional directors and the core team, developed over months before being performed in professional theatres.

Training is also an integral part of their work. They have developed a robust 10-day Theatre Leadership Training programme, during which trainees are mentored to run their own workshops and eventually their own ‘Satellite’ projects. The training is accompanied by a manual for trainees and facilitators called the ‘Seenaryo Theatre Cookbook’.

In schools, they train teachers of children aged 3-8-year-olds using the ‘Seenaryo Playkit’. The training involves follow-up, mentoring and support visitors for the majority of teachers. They continually invest in the development of the Playkit App which allows all teachers to access play-based resources and tips if child-centred teaching methods.
