Theirworld, Your Walk FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is Theirworld, Your Walk?

Theirworld, Your Walk is an annual fundraising challenge that takes place during the month of June.

This year, #YourWalk will raise funds to help children disrupted by war in Ukraine continue their education.

How do I sign up for Theirworld, Your Walk?

It’s easy to do, simply click the ‘Sign Up’ button on this page.

How do I take part in a team?

Combine your steps across the month to reach the ‘Magic’ 1,000,000 steps total.

First, one team member signs up and creates a team page on JustGiving. Then, click ‘Create a team’ and follow the instructions. You can then send the link to team members to sign up and create their own fundraising pages.

Your team page will show your team’s total funds raised.

We have a useful video guide to explain this whole process if you’re feeling stuck.

How can a school take part?

Challenge students to complete 300,000 steps on their own (or with their families if they’re a bit younger) – that’s 10,000 steps a day. Or encourage students to team up to walk one million steps together. They can team up in classes, year groups or even houses and combine their steps to reach that all important target. Teachers, support staff and parents may want to join too!

Can I take part if I use a wheelchair or mobility aid?

Of course, we’d love you to still get involved. Just pledge that in June you’ll get out and about, making sure that the distances are realistic for your level of fitness.

Can I run or jog the distance?

Yes, feel free to complete the distance in the way that works for you, making sure to keep in mind your ability and fitness levels.

Can I take part if I’m not in the UK?

Yes, absolutely. Just follow the ‘Sign Up’ button at the top of this page.

Can children take part?

Children are welcome to take part but only if they are participating alongside a registered person over the age of 18.

Is it free to register?

Yes, it is completely free to register for Theirworld, Your Walk. We suggest you start with a fundraising target of £150/$150, but any money raised will make a real difference in our work and contribute to our overall target of £30,000/$30,000.

How much money do I need to raise?

We ask that those taking on the walk raise at least £150/$150 for Theirworld. But why stop there? We have lots of resources and support to help you with your fundraising so that you can reach, and even exceed your target. Remember a laptop can be provided for every £200/$200 raised!

How do I track my steps?

Modern smart phones tend to come with a pre-installed fitness app that will automatically track your steps when carried on your person. This is an easy way to count the steps you have taken. Alternatively, you can use a smart watch or a pedometer device too.

Don’t forget to update your network on how you’re getting on in June by posting updates on your JustGiving page about the number of steps you’ve taken.

How can I see what other people are doing?

You can see how you or your team are doing compared to others by looking at the Theirworld, Your Walk campaign page on JustGiving. This is where every fundraising page is linked to so you can see what others are up to.

Can I fundraise offline?

Yes, you can. While JustGiving makes donating easy, we understand that fundraising offline has merits too. Simply download a sponsorship form from our resources section and get friends and family to sponsor you that way. At the end of your challenge, you can upload any offline donations to your JustGiving page so your total is up to date. Don’t forget you can still claim gift aid on offline donations.

How will my money be used?

Every pound raised will go toward Theirworld’s work to end the global education crisis. The money raised through Theirworld, Your Walk will help provide laptops to children who currently can’t access school or online learning because they lack devices.

What about Gift Aid/ Are my donations tax deductible?

For UK based fundraisers:

If the person donating is a UK Taxpayer, Gift Aid allows us to receive an additional 25p for every £1 they donate, at no additional cost to them.

Just Giving gives people the easy option to opt in for Gift Aid. If people donate in person, make sure you record their name and address on your sponsorship form and have them tick the Gift Aid box for us to successfully claim Gift Aid from their donation.

Please note that Gift Aid will not count towards your fundraising target but please do encourage your supporters to include Gift Aid in their donation as every penny counts.

For US based fundraisers:

Yes. You will receive email confirmation of your donation and will be able to download the receipt from your JustGiving account to use for tax purposes.
