Fundraising for Theirworld can not only be fun but help children start to become active global citizens capable of making a positive difference to the world. It can also develop important skills such as leadership, communication and teamwork.
Funds raised for Theirworld could provide learning activity packs with materials and arts & crafts activities for Syrian refugee children stuck in camps on the Greek islands; or a tablet for a teacher in Uganda to teach their students remotely; or fund a training session for a nursery teacher on inclusive teaching for children with learning difficulties.
Ideally, any fundraising should take place after young people have had the opportunity to learn about the issues Theirworld is concerned with. Where possible, young people should then choose and design their own fundraising approach, based on this learning.
There are lots of ways to raise money to help Theirworld ensure that every child has the best start in life, a safe place to learn and skills for the future. We’d love to have your support.
Fundraising ideas for schools
Here are some suggestions for fundraising activities. Or feel free to invent your own ideas!
- Hold a book sale – Most people, including friends, family and neighbours, have boxes of books they no longer want. Why not ask if they will donate them for a book sale which you could hold after school?
- Organise a cake sale – Get the whole school baking and raising money with a cake sale.
- Have a non-uniform day – Organise a non-uniform or Christmas Jumper Day and suggest people donate £1 to Theirworld.
- Take part in a reading challenge – Set aside some time for a sponsored read. Ask people to sponsor their ‘read’ and raise money based on the number of pages they read.
- Get active! – Design your own sporting challenge and ask people to sponsor you. Maybe you could run or cycle a certain distance, set up an obstacle race in the playground or organise a danceathon.
- Organise a Keys & Locks game competition – Learn about the global education crisis while playing Theirworld’s version of the traditional ‘Snakes & Ladders’ game. Order a hard copy or download a digital board game kit and take turns to play in twos, with the winner staying on until you find your class champion! Suggest a donation of £1 to take part.
