The People’s Postcode Lottery UK (PPL) has awarded a grant to support Theirworld to expand its Safe Schools Programme and Education Without Borders initiative in conflict zones.

The new grant will enable Theirworld to expand its global education campaign and build and invest in its Safe Schools programme in Sub Saharan Africa. The grant, in collaboration with support from the Dutch Postcode Lottery awarded earlier this week, will also support Theirworld’s Education Without Borders initiatives in the Lebanon that ensure that children continue to receive their education in conflict zones.

Theirworld President Sarah Brown said: “With the deadline to get every child into a quality primary education before 2016 fast approaching, the PPL’s grant could not come at a more crucial time for those children most in need. Half of the children out of school are living in conflict affected areas and during the past year we have seen an increase in attacks on schools, pupils and teachers uniting the world in condemnation.”

The grant was presented to Theirworld at the PPL’s Charity Gala in Edinburgh. Some famous faces were on hand to support the global education campaign called #UpForSchool. The #UpForSchool campaign is calling for action to get every child in to school, without danger of discrimination.
