Rugby star Ugo Monye and drag queen Ella Vaday join Theirworld’s Global Tantrum

Ugo Monye and Ella Vaday feature in new Global Tantrum videos

Ahead of the UN General Assembly, they act like fed-up toddlers in new films to spotlight the lack of investment by world leaders on early years care and pre-primary education.

Two British TV stars are acting like big kids in new videos to promote Theirworld’s Global Tantrum – a protest over the lack of action on early years care and education.

Former England rugby player and TV presenter Ugo Monye and drag queen Ella Vaday, who starred in RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, channel their inner angry toddlers in fun films with powerful messages for world leaders.

They are the latest celebrities to make videos for the Global Tantrum, which is part of Theirworld’s Act for Early Years campaign to raise awareness of the importance of investing in crucial childcare and pre-primary education.

We are taking the Global Tantrum to the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week to send a strong message to world leaders that they are ignoring the world’s youngest children.

Ugo is a father of two girls. Playing for Harlequins, he won the English Premiership and European Challenge Cup twice. Ugo also played for England and toured South Africa with the British and Irish Lions.

After retiring, Ugo became a key member of BT Sport’s rugby team, a captain on BBC’s A Question of Sport and a presenter of Rugby Special. In 2021, he appeared as a contestant on the hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing.

Ugo said: “From my own experiences of raising my daughters, I know how challenging and precious those first few years of a child’s life can be. Children change and develop so quickly, so it is vital we provide them with the care and support they need to nurture their traits and talents – tantrums and all.

“Young families everywhere are currently being stretched way beyond their means, leaving too many of the world’s children with no access to pre-primary education. I’m incredibly proud to support Theirworld’s Global Tantrum campaign to help improve access to childcare, giving children and their carers the tools they need to thrive and succeed.”

Ella is a drag performer, actor and dancer from London who was a runner-up in the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK in 2021.

Ella started dance classes as a young child. She said: “I remember having the best time and having my parents and family come and watch it. I think that’s what sparked the desire to entertain.

“It’s really important that every child has the opportunity to develop their skills and find out what they love doing.”

Our Global Tantrum films kicked off with Matt Lucas – British actor, comedian, writer and Theirworld Ambassador. Others have featured former Pussycat Dolls singer Kimberly Watt, Kenyan TV star Jacky Vike, American parenting influencer Jyoti Chand and British magician Ben Hanlin.
