Theirworld secures €900,000 annual funding in renewed partnership with Dutch Postcode Lottery
Theirworld has been awarded €900,000 (£750,000) a year to advance the education of some of the world’s most vulnerable children as part of a renewed partnership with the Dutch Postcode Lottery (Nationale Postcode Loterij).
In a powerful show of support for children’s education worldwide, the Dutch Postcode Lottery has announced it will fund the global children’s charity for another three years, reinforcing a partnership that began more than a decade ago.
Starting in January, the new funding will enable Theirworld to drive forward its bold five-year strategy aimed at ensuring that every child has the best start in life, a safe place to learn and skills for the future.
Key to this strategy is Theirworld’s ambitious goal of mobilising at least $1 billion by 2028 in new funding and pledges for early childhood development globally.
Additionally, the charity plans to expand its global network of young activists in more than 140 countries, training 10,000 new youth activists to advocate for quality, inclusive education for children around the world.
Today, more than 260 million children are out of school, a crisis exacerbated by conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and beyond. Climate emergencies and discrimination are also driving millions of children out of the classroom.
The continued support from the Dutch Postcode Lottery will help Theirworld tackle these global challenges by investing in educational programmes that drive climate action, narrow the gender gap and build more inclusive societies.
Justin van Fleet, President, Theirworld said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Dutch Postcode Lottery for their continued generosity and belief in Theirworld’s mission to end the global education crisis and unleash the potential of the next generation.
“Today, one in 10 children is not in school. Every child out of school represents a future lost. This vital funding will enable us to reach more children, particularly those in crisis and conflict zones, ensuring they receive the quality education they desperately need.”
Sarah Brown, Chair, Theirworld, added: “Education is the key to unlocking solutions to some of the greatest challenges we face. Thanks to our continued partnership with the Dutch Postcode Lottery, we can have an even greater impact, helping to create a greener, fairer and more prosperous future for all children,
Marieke Rodenhuis, Head of Charities at Postcode Lottery: “We are very proud that the Postcode Lottery, thanks to its participants, will continue to support Theirworld for the next three years. By working together, we can help ensure that every child, no matter their circumstances, has the opportunity to learn and grow.”

About the Nationale Postcode Loterij
The Nationale Postcode Loterij was founded in 1989 to support charities working towards a just, healthy and green world. The lottery raises funds for its charities and raises awareness of their work. In the Nationale Postcode Loterij, your postcode is your ticket number, so you win together with your neighbours. Currently, over three million participants play the lottery. Participants have a chance to win hundreds of thousands of prizes each month and support 146 charitable organisations annually with at least 40% of the ticket price. Since its inception, the Nationale Postcode Loterij has donated €8 billion to people and nature.
The Nationale Postcode Loterij is part of the Postcode Lottery Group, a social enterprise that has established the unique Postcode Lottery format in five countries. The goal is to raise as much money as possible for charities by organising a lottery. The Postcode Lottery Group is the third-largest private donor to charities worldwide (2021). In 2023, it was able to donate a record amount of over €900 million to charities and cultural partners. The shares of the Postcode Lottery Group are 100% owned by a foundation.
