About the role

Theirworld is seeking a Design Assistant to support the hands-on creation of visual content within our in-house Creative Studio.

Our Creative Studio produces high-quality visual materials for the charity’s campaigning, advocacy, fundraising and project work — including photography, short-form video, social media assets, branded templates, infographics and print/digital materials.

This is a highly practical, creative role ideal for someone at the start of their design or content-production career who wants to develop their skills across design, photography, video editing and digital asset creation.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and working closely with our Studio Manager, you will be part of a 10-strong Marketing and Communications team and collaborate with internal teams and external creatives.

Main responsibilities

The Design Assistant will support hands-on creative production across digital and print design, photo and video editing, and branded item development. Responsibilities include:

1. Design for digital, print and brand materials

Create and adapt on-brand designs for a variety of outputs, including:

  • Printed materials (flyers, posters, brochures, event collateral).
  • Annual reports and publications (layout support, image preparation, simple page design).
  • Branded stationery and core brand assets (templates, icons, graphics).
  • Physical items such as event banners, signage and display materials.

Prepare artwork files to correct print specifications and support quality checks on proofs.

2. Photography & Video Editing

  • Edit and prepare photography for use across reports, social media, campaigns and print.
  • Support basic video editing tasks, including trimming footage, adding captions/subtitles, resizing for platforms and preparing final exports.
  • Ensure all visual content is consistent, high-quality and aligned with brand standards

3. Branded Items & Merchandise

  • Assist with the creation of artwork for merchandise and promotional items (e.g. pop-up banners, tote bags, t-shirts, notebooks, stickers, event giveaways).
  • Adapt designs for production and prepare print-ready files for suppliers.
  • Support reviewing samples and ensuring final outputs meet brand expectations.

4. Studio, team and organizational support

  • Understand and work from briefs, clarifying requirements where needed.
  • Deliver creative outputs in a timely manner, following brand guidelines and studio processes.
  • Share updates with the Studio Manager and wider team, flagging issues early and contributing to smooth studio workflow.

Experience, skills and character

  • A proactive, enthusiastic ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Some experience and training in design and video editing (formal or self-taught). Photo editing is a plus.
  • Confident with design or editing tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud)
  • Familiar with social media channels and individual channel requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and a good visual eye.
  • Ability to work to brand guidelines and follow creative direction.
  • Good organisational skills and reliability in meeting deadlines.
  • Collaborative, positive and proactive working as part of a team.
  • Able to effectively manage multiple projects and timelines.

Salary

Starting at £28,000+ based on qualifications and experience.
