Global Youth Ambassador Philip Obaji wins African education award

One of A World at School’s Global Youth Ambassadors has been honoured with a major African education award.

Philip Obaji Jr from Nigeria received the Future Africa Awards Prize In Education 2014 at a ceremony in Lagos. He said it was “a joy” to be honoured.

The award came just days after Philip wrote a blog for A World at School about a dangerous trip he made deep in northeastern Borno state in Nigeria to visit Boko Haram’s first ever camp.

Philip is an education and children’s rights activist, a marine biologist and founder of the 1GAME campaign. The advocacy organisation – launched in 2010 – fights for the right to education for disadvantaged children, especially street children in northern Nigeria popularly called Almajiris.

The Future Africa Awards celebrate young Africans between the ages of 18 and 31.
