Miss America Kira Kazantsev pledges her support for #UpForSchool

Miss America knows the importance of education – that’s why she’s giving her support to the #UpForSchool Petition.

Kira Kazantsev is a triple-major university graduate who speaks three languages and wants to work in international diplomacy.

So she knows how vital it is that every child gets the best opportunity possible through a great education – something denied to 59 million children who are out of school around the world due to child labour, child marriage, discrimination and conflicts.

The #UpForSchool Petition is a youth-led campaign that demands world leaders keep to their promise to get every girl and boy in every country into school and learning.

Kira, 23 – who was crowned Miss America 2015 in September – said: “This is an important year for global education. Millions of children are displaced from school due to war and poverty. Hundreds of millions more are not learning.

“We can all help bring education to out-of-school children and ensure the little ones have the best start in life. Join me in signing the #UpForSchool Petition.”

The petition has already gathered an amazing eight million signatures. It has been signed by world leaders such as Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, celebrities like Shakira and Justin Bieber, and millions of ordinary people who care about the future of children.

The petition will be delivered in September to the United Nations General Assembly in New York City – Kira’s home town.

An advocate for women’s rights, Kira works hard to highlight the plight of women victims of domestic violence.

She is a graduate of Hofstra University with a triple major in political science, global studies and geography who wants to specialise in international diplomacy after gaining a law degree. Apart from English, she also speaks Russian and Spanish.
