Stay with Ukraine, Junior
About
Context
The war in Ukraine has severely disrupted education. Millions have been forced to flee the country, and thousands of schools have been damaged.
Approach
The Stay With Ukraine Junior project, delivered by NGO Smart Osvita, is helping displaced Ukrainian children to continue the education they received before the war.
Staying connected to home
With support from Theirworld, Smart Osvita is delivering online lessons in Ukrainian language, culture and history for hundreds of Ukrainian children aged 7-9. Many have missed out on Early years education due to the war and have limited literacy skills.
Children will take part in weekly lessons to supplement the curriculum they are studying in their adopted countries. The lessons help refugee children keep up with the education they are missing in Ukraine, stay in touch with their homeland and talk to other Ukrainian students in different countries.
Continuing to study in their own language supports children’s mental health during a time of trauma and reduces disruption if and when they do return to school in Ukraine.
