ANCEFA points the way for #UpForSchool campaign

A World at School, Up for School or #upforschool campaign

As 2014 drew to a close, I had the opportunity to travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as a guest of The Africa Network Campaign on Education For All (ANCEFA) as they mapped out their advocacy and policy work for the coming year.

It was great to be with the top leaders on education policy advocacy from across the continent and have the chance to discuss the challenges and opportunities that we will all work hard together on over the next several months. An inspiring way to finish a great year of action on education.

The unfinished agenda of Millennium Development Goal 2, which is the core of all of our work at A World at School and requires (very loud!) continued action in 2015, requires a much greater focus on resources and solutions for Africa’s children — 30 million of the 58 million children out-of-school around the world.

It was a great honour to share our #UpForSchool Petition work face to face with these leaders and hear their ideas about how to include more and more communities in the effort to build a message no leader can ignore.

We’ll certainly have more to share about the efforts of ANCEFA country coalitions on #UpForSchool in the New Year. But for now I close 2014 excited to be learning from (and fighting with!) ANCEFA colleagues, our Global Youth Ambassadors and many other leaders and allies around the world who do not accept that any child anywhere should be denied their right to an education.

Here’s to picking up the fight in 2015 with those who are leading the way!
