500 Days Later: Progress on Safe Schools in Nigeria

27th August was the 500th day since the abduction of over two hundred schoolgirls in Chibok, Nigeria. Marking this anniversary, vigils were held by Chibok ambassadors in Abuja.

Over at the GBC-Education blog, Sarah Brown has written about the tangible progress made by our Safe Schools Initiative, and its impact on 50,000 schoolchildren.

As of May, a total of 47,952 children have been supported through this program and learning support and teaching materials have been distributed, including 35,000 school bags. To date, 683 teachers have been trained in pedagogy and methodology to facilitate the teaching of internally displaced children in the double-shift schools.
