Multi Community Based Development Initiative
About
For many children and young people living with HIV, mental health challenges can make it harder to stay healthy, attend school and reach their full potential.
The Mental Health Intervention Integration for Better Outcomes (MHIBO) programme helps students in Uganda access the support they need by combining mental health care, counselling and peer support with education and HIV services. Teachers and health workers work closely with young people to support their wellbeing, treatment and learning.
The programme also trains educators and healthcare professionals, creates peer mentoring opportunities and works with communities to tackle the social and economic factors that can affect mental health.
By helping young people feel supported, valued and understood, MHIBO is reducing stigma, improving school attendance and creating better opportunities for children and adolescents living with HIV.
