Prof Qun Chen

Professor Qun Chen was appointed UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Education in April 2026, leading the organization's global work to transform education systems and advance SDG 4. A physicist and education specialist, he served as Deputy Mayor of Shanghai (2017 to 2023), overseeing the city’s education portfolio, as President of East China Normal University (2012 to 2018), and has chaired the Governing Board of the UNESCO Teacher Education Center since 2021.
