Model and campaigner Christy Turlington Burns shares old school photo to support #UpForSchool

Celebrities, Up for School or #upforschool campaign

Supermodel Christy Turlington Burns has become the latest celebrity to share their old school photo on Throwback Thursday to encourage people to support the #UpForSchool campaign.

Christy – pictured smiling at the age of eight – has a particular interest in ensuring the 31 million girls currently out of school around the world get an education. She is the founder of Every Mother Counts, a charity dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe for every mother.

On her Instagram posting, she wrote: “Did you know that educating girls for six years or more consistently improves their prenatal care, postnatal care and childbirth survival rates later in life?”

Christy joins a host of people – celebrities, politicians and members of the public – who shared their old school photos to mark International Women’s Day, raise awareness of the millions of girls missing out on education and ask people to stand #UpForSchool. It is a youth-led campaign that demands world leaders keep their promise to get all children into school and learning.

They included Shakira, Heidi Klum, Priyank Chopra and Lang Lang. See their old school photos here and read our International Women’s Day blog.

And if you haven’t already signed the #UpForSchool Petition, you can do it now.
