Theirworld trustee leads GBC-Education meeting in India
The Global Business Coalition for Education (GBC-Education)
Last month, Theirworld trustee Rt Hon Lord Paul of Marylebone led a meeting of the India Working Group of the Global Business Coalition for Education (GBC-Education). Held in New Delhi, the meeting brought together 26 of the largest stakeholders in local education in India and was organised in collaboration with the Global Compact Network India.
With the deadline for fulfilling the second Millennium Development Goal fast approaching, the meeting highlighted the potential for India to deliver education for all Indian children together with the obstacles the country faces: a dropout crisis is mounting among India’s poorest populations, at least 30 percent of India’s girls do not attain a primary school education and targeted efforts are needed to keep the country on track.
Lord Paul, amongst others, called for increased support of #UpForSchool. Led by A World at School, the #UpForSchool petition has gained over 5.5 million signatures from people calling on world leaders to deliver on their promise to deliver a quality education for each end every child by the end of the year.
