The far-reaching impact of bullying
Many of us still carry the memory of a cruel comment made by a classmate – words spoken carelessly in a moment but remembered long after the person who said them has forgotten.
According to UNESCO, one in three students experiences bullying. The consequences can last far beyond the classroom, affecting wellbeing, learning and future opportunities.
Students who experience bullying can struggle to concentrate, avoid school activities or miss classes altogether.
For some, bullying contributes to children disengaging from education altogether, with long-term consequences for the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive.
The scale of the problem is significant. With so many students experiencing bullying, schools need effective ways to build empathy, inclusion and respect for others.
For children in rural communities, access to innovative educational programmes can be limited, leaving many without opportunities to challenge prejudice, explore different perspectives and build stronger relationships with their peers.
Innovation Awards winner
As a cohort five winner of Theirworld’s Education Innovation Awards, Teatro Ciego received a £40,000 grant and access to mentoring, coaching and strategic guidance.
The grant and mentoring enabled Teatro Ciego to review its educational model and strengthen its internal systems. Rather than building educational content around artistic productions, the organisation redesigned its approach to put curriculum and learning outcomes first, creating a stronger foundation for scaling its work.

Expanding reach to rural classrooms
The Innovation Awards have helped shift Teatro Ciego’s mindset from local delivery to scalable impact, giving the organisation greater clarity and confidence as it plans for the future.
By 2027, they aim to reach 36,000 children across rural areas of Córdoba, Jujuy, Salta and Chaco, providing access to educational experiences that promote diversity, inclusion and environmental awareness.
With stronger systems, a clearer educational focus and a strategy for growth, Teatro Ciego is ready to bring its innovative approach to thousands more children across Argentina.
